What is the Kids Craft Fair?
The Oaks Kids Craft Fair gives students the opportunity to make arts and crafts at home and sell them to the community at a school-wide crafts fair that will take place on Friday, December 13 after school dismissal. Students are encouraged to not only operate their own booth but to donate a portion of their sales to charitable organizations.
This year’s Kids Craft Fair is co-chaired by Angela Brantley, Lisa Kay Jennings, and Marty Tolliver. If your child would like to participate, please sign up here.
What types of things have students sold in the past?
Students have sold bath bombs, jewelry, candles, ornaments, and so much more. We've included some pictures from past years for inspiration. The crafts do not have to be pinterest-worthy. This is an opportunity for students to get creative and design their own projects without worrying too much about the finished product.
Can my child bring baked goods instead of a craft?
Yes. While we encourage bakers to contribute to the Carnival Bake Sale instead, we will not turn down crafts of the edible variety. Please bring them individually wrapped if possible as purchasers will not be able to eat them inside. Feel free to enjoy in the courtyard but please make sure you clean up behind you.
Is it ok for a small group of kids to make and sell their crafts together?
Yes, please note on the sign up if your student will be working with a small group. We just ask that you follow handbook guidelines to support inclusion, not exclusion, such as natural groupings that don’t exclude just one or a few children in a class.
How much should the crafts cost, and what do students do with their earnings?
It’s entirely up to you; however, most crafts range from $1-$10, with most being in the lower range.
Students can keep their earnings if they wish. However, we encourage them to give 20% or more to the three nonprofits researched and selected by the 6th graders. Students can also consider giving a portion to The Oaks as part of the Annual Fund Student Pledge Project.
When and where do I drop off my child’s crafts?
You can drop off your child’s craft in The Parlor between 8:00 a.m. and noon on the day of the fair.
The Parlor is located next to the Chapel. You can enter through a door off of the Courtyard or through the inside hallway next to the Chapel.
The Kids Craft Fair Committee will set up your child’s booth. Please include specific directions if you’d like, or feel free to stop by to spruce it up to your liking before the fair starts.
If my child participates, do we need to provide a sign or table?
A table and dropcloth will be provided for you.
It’s not necessary, but many kids do choose to make a poster board or smaller sized sign for their booth.
How do you pay for crafts?
The Kids Craft Fair is CASH ONLY. However, the committee will have change on hand, so if you’re a vendor, there is no need to worry about bringing or having change at your booth.
Each vendor will be given an envelope to hold their earnings. At the end of the fair, they will be asked how much, if any, of their earnings they’d like to donate.
Does my child have to participate?
No. However, if your child does not want to make a craft, they are still highly encouraged to visit the fair to admire or purchase their friends’ creations. The carpool lanes will not be available for pickup that day. All families will need to park and walk in, so you might as well stop by and check out our local artists!
All children, both vendors and shoppers, need to have an adult responsible for them during the fair.
